What is an underground storm water buffer tank?
An in-ground storm water buffer basin is a storm water management system designed to temporarily collect excess rainwater during intense weather events, often referred to as “thunderstorms”. The main purpose of this system is to prevent existing drainage systems from overflowing and to prevent flooding.
The term “buffer” refers to the basin’s ability to absorb temporary water surcharges, acting as a buffer between the incoming flow of water and the drainage system or watercourse to which the water is ultimately directed.
The “in-ground” aspect means that the pond is installed below ground level, maximizing the use of above-ground space and minimizing the visual impact of the pond.
